Understrength Axminster Town were no match for Brixham, losing 3-0 last evening (Wednesday) before a sparse crowd at Tiger Way.
In his programme notes, Tigers' manager Dan Prettyjohn described the South Devon side as the best side they had faced this season so this was not the time to meet them with four of Axminster's best players not available, four of which are under suspension.
Brixham sit in third place in the South West Peninsular League Premier Division, two points behind leaders Okehampton Argyle with a game in hand and look more than capable of winning the league. Axminster stay in eighth place.
Axe were outplayed for most of the game and apart from a half-chance which fell to Jamie Short on five minutes, they never tested the keeper at all.
Brixham went in at half-time with. 2-0 lead, bo
th goals coming from corners which the Tigers failed to deal with.
Their third came in the 77th minute, a nice one-two
movement and neat finish, but apart from a late rally Axminster rarely troubled the Brixham keeper. The match was sponsored by Axminster Nub News. On Saturday Axminster Reserves fielded a weak side in Devon and Exeter Premier division, losing 5-0 to third placed Kentisbeare. This coming weekend the first team are away to Torridgeside with whom they drew 2-2 at home in November. The Reserves are at home in a local derby against Lyme Regis.Share:
