Axminster Town maintained their fifth place in the South West Peninsular League Premier East wit a 2-1 victory over close rivals Newton Abbot Spurs.
With goals from top scorer Craig Veal and Joe Chamberlain, this was an important result for the Tigers as Spurs were breathing down their neck in sixth place but Axe have opened up a five-point league over the South Devon club with two games in hand. Bovey Tracey are now the big threat in sixth place, trailing by three points with one game in hand.
Ben Palmer , sponsored by Axe Skips, was Axminster's man-of-the-match.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) Axe will be meeting Okehampton Argyle in the semi-final of the Walter C Parsons Cup, to be played at Newton Abbott. The club will be running a bus, leaving Tiger Way at 6pm.
This coming Saturday Axminster travel to Teignmouth who are in eight opposition, to be followed by an away trip the following Tuesday (April 26) against Torrington who sit in 12th spot.
