Axminster Town travel to Brixham today in determined mood to return to winning ways after dropping points in two recent South West Peninsular Premier games.

The Tigers dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Crediton and on Tuesday they featured in a typical 1-1 local derby against Honiton Town, two results which has seen them drop to third place in the table after an impressive start to the season.

Last season Axminster drew 13 of their fixtures and manager Dan Preetejohn has challenged his squad to reduce the one-pointers in a bid to beat their sixth place in the last campaign.

The Honiton game was a typical niggly affair with very little flowing football. Top scorer Craig Veal gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at half time. The Hippos did get the ball int the back of the net but the goal was ruled offside after the referee consulted his lineman .

Honiton's equaliser came in the second half from the penalty spot.

After the game, Prettejohn commented: "It's very important not to lose local derby but frustrating we could not match our first-half performance in the second half. Credit to Honiton - they stuck to a plan and left with a point I can't say they didn't deserve."

With nine games played, Axminster have dropped into third place and it's starting to look tight at the top with Dartmouth on the same number of points as Axe but with a game in hand.

Today's opponents Brixham are in fifth place on 15 points, three behind Axminster but with two games in hand.
