Uplyme sit comfortably in mid table in Devon and Exeter Division Division Four after an entertaining 4-4 draw with Cullompton

Uplyme 1sts showed plenty of character to twice come back from two goals down in an entertaining 4-4 draw at home to Cullompton Rangers 2nds.

After starting strongly and having plenty of possession, sloppy defending from a set piece let Rangers go ahead and doubled their lead midway through the half.

In tricky conditions, Uplyme pulled one back before half-time as Wes Holmes slipped a great through ball onto Jamie Gunstone who coolly finished under the keeper.

The second half started strongly for the home team, as a brilliant individual effort from Gunstone levelled the match. Receiving the ball wide right, he held off two players before spinning and curling an unstoppable shot into the far corner.

Rangers used their five subs well and scored two quick goals that looked like it had killed off the game. However, James Souter dragged Uplyme back with a far-post finish from a Gunstone square ball.

With minutes to go, Uplyme won a penalty through sub Steve Gillan and up stepped Connor Tate to calmly slot home Uplyme's fourth. There was still time for Uplyme to almost grab a late winner from dangerous corners, but it ended all square.

"Probably fair, in the end," Mused manager Pete Blandamer. "Our unbeaten home run continues, and we now look ahead to five straight home games, most of which are with the top teams."

Tate and Gunstone were both highly praised for their contributions, as well as James Souter, for his all-energy display.
