MILLWEY RISE FC 1ST X1
Rise began the game as they finished the first period, very much in the driving seat against Pinhoe 1st X1 in Devon and Exeter League Division Two East.
The only thing missing, goals. A Luke Thurlow header flashed past the upright. A Zak Meaker blast from 20 yards skimmed the bar followed by a Sam Turner special from 25 yards that was a whisker away from opening the scoring. Nathan Hoole in the Millwey goal was a virtual spectator.
The second half was a different story. Although Millwey pressed at every opportunity, gaps began appearing in their defence and it took some outstanding saves from Hoole to keep Pinhoe out.
Millwey came close when a Jack Farrant header from distance caught the keeper off his line but the ball bounced agonisingly round the post. Hoole again made a fantastic last ditch save with an outstretched leg and from the ensuing corner tipped the ball over the bar. '
Rise eventually got the goal they deserved when, from a pinpoint Haydn Lewis cross, Ty Allen headed home.
Pinhoe continued a relentless attack on Hoole's goal. Alex Rockett and Stuart King worked tirelessly in the Rise defence but from a free-kick on the edge of the area with four minutes to go Pinhoe fired home the equaliser.
Zac Meaker was Millwey's MoM for his untiring effort throughout the game closely followed by goalkeeper Nathan Hoole. Next week Millwey Rise 1st X1 travel to bottom of the table Axmouth United (kick-off 2.15pm).
MILLWEY RISE FC 2nd X1
'Millwey REeserves welcomed Otterton to Harry's field for this week's Division 4 East fixture and it was the visitors who started the better though after ten minutes soaking up the pressure the home side began to find their rhythm.
Jack Bennett's header smashed against the bar from a corner and two good saves from the visiting keeper saw the teams reach half time with honours even.
At the start of the second period Millwey's defence were put under pressure but soon got things together again so it was a surprise when Otterton took the lead, bundling the ball home from close range much against the run of play.
This certainly lit a fire under Rise but chance after chance went begging including one that was easier to score than miss. Late into the half Otterton once more, against the run of play, made Millwey pay and doubled their lead to take all the points.
Millwey Rise manager Terry Male said: "It was a game of chances and unfortunately we didn't take ours like Otterton did.
He added "I have not chosen a man-of-the-match as the team all played well but without the result their efforts deserved."
Next week the Reserves are at Cloakham Lawns in a bit of a local derby against Seaton Town 2nds who are in second place in the table (kick-off 2.15 pm).
