Exeter Raiders 1sts 3, Millwey Rise 2nds 2
Millwey Rise 2nd X1 travelled to Exeter for their match against City Raiders but were beaten 3-2 in an entertaining game.
Rise started well but didn't really trouble the home side's goal. It was the Raiders who took the lead, but just before their goal the ball looked to have been out of play. This was overuled and play went on allowing the home side's striker to beat returning keeper Leon Finbow at the near post. The first half ended 1-0 to the hosts.
Minutes into the second period Millwey failed to clear their lines and a Raiders' forward headed the ball home to double their lead.
Rise worked hard to get back into the game but could not profit from their efforts and were made to pay again as they conceded a third goal from a free kick. This setback kicked Rise into life and Jack Bennett scored his fourth goal in two games. He then had a great headed goal ruled out for a hotly contested off-side.
Millwey soon hit back getting a second through Sammy D'albertson. This set up a great push for an equaliser that unfortunately Rise didn't quite manage.
The management team were tremendously impressed with the grit and desire shown by all the players involved.
Manager Terry Male said: "Fighting back from 3-0 down to only lose 3-2 which, in reality should have been a draw, highlighted the commitment and fight from the lads. It was amazing and I'm sure we will start getting better results very soon"
