LYME Regis 1st and Colyton met in a pre-season friendly at the Chantry Field last night (Thursday) .
The Seasiders started really well despite having a number of players missing.
Colyton went in as big favourites but Lyme had other ideas, creating a number of big chances but were unable to capitalise.
Colyton had one or two moments of their own but somehow the teams went in 0-0 at half-time with Lyme having the better of the half.
The second half was a different story, however, as Colyton gained the upper hand and deservedly took the lead when Gary Knight (who otherwise had a colossal game) attempted to head back to his goalkeeper but inadvertently sent Colyton's Jake Richards clean through. He made no mistake slotting past Chris Higgs from close range.
This prompted a strong Lyme response and they deservedly levelled moments later when Kingsley Wellman bundled the ball home to cap a battling performance at the heart of the Lyme defence.
It was a great battle between two teams harbouring top three hopes in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division East. Both teams agreed a draw was a fair result.
Colyton start their season on Saturday, September 26th away to neighbours Seaton Town. Lyme 's first league fixture is on Sturdy, October 3rd away to Beer Albion.
