It's all happening at Tiger Way where Axminster Town's players are back in training for the coming season and with a summer of fundraising events planned.

The Tigers had their first pre-season friendly with a 3-2 defeat at home to Wincanton, a good work out for the players and satisfactory result against a very good side.

The coming season will be new ground for Axminster with Dan Prettejohn now in charge of the first team. Life has been tough for the Tigers in the South Peninsular League in recent seasons, finishing third from bottom in the table when COVID-19 brought the season to an abrupt half.

But Pretteyjohn is confident of building a decent squad and is looking forward to the challenge of managing at a higher level.

The first team have another friendly tomorrow (Thursday) at home to Wellington Town (kick-off at 7.30pm).

The Reserves return for training next week under the supervision of new manager Jamie Barefoot.

Things are looking good off the field with full programme of events throughout the summer. Morale has certainly been boosted by staging England's Euro games in the club with manager Andy Hurford commenting: "There is a buzz around the club because people have been away for a long time and you can see they are happy to be part pop the experience."

With former chairman Ray Self now back with the club in an ambassadorial role, concentrating on rebuilding the club's position in the community, the club's profile is definitely on the up.

This coming Saturday the club is staging a Family Fun Day with free coaching sessions for youngsters. As well as the football, visitors to Tiger Way will be able to enjoy a barbecue, a mini-market, disco and children's entertainment. On Sunday the club will host a six-a-side tournament.
