Win for Axminster Under 11s in blustery conditions

Axminster Tigers (Under 11s) 5, Dawlish United 1.

The Under 11s travelled to Dawlish on a wet and windy day, playing against the wind in the first half. The Tigers were slow to start, having come from a good training session the previous evening.

Dawlish put pressure on the Axminster defence from the off and created some chances early on that led the Tigers going down 1-0, with Dawlish then denied another goal due to off side.

Changes were made, swapping the defence around to contain the fast Dawlish right winger, and the Tigers started to get some passes together, eventually with striker Fred L hitting the back of the Dawlish net to go 1-1 at half time.

Tactics board out and with a pep talk and sub changes, the Axminster players came out on fire with the wind behind them. They were containing Dawlish in their own half nicely, with some great wing play with Marco on the right and Charlie on the left.

With plenty of one-on-one midfield battles, the team were knocking the ball around and created some excellent chances - Arthur netting one and Fred L another in quick succession.

Dawlish had their heads down and the boys took advantage of this. A free-kick given to the Tigers 20 yards out resulting in an Arthur special - placing the ball in the top right corner of the net. Axe were on a roll with Fred L completing his hat-trick.

Dawlish had a brief come back but the Tigers' defence stood strong with Jenson starting his first game and Sidney, playing a blinder, getting man-of-the-match award for his outstanding timing and tackles.

This was a great win for the Axminsterboys who needed this confidence lift. Once again those who are attending regular training sessions are making some great progress and these continue to be the back bone of the squad.
