East Budleigh 2nd X1 3
Millwey Rise 1st X1 1 The early kick-off of 12-30 pm seemed too early for Millwey Rise who spent most of the first half rubbing the sleep from their eyes. In what proved a poor game of football Millwey were guilty of giving the ball away far too many times. Although they managed a couple of corners in the first quarter and Basson, after a dizzy run at the defence, hit the post, any cohesive build-up play was at a minimum. There were individual flashes of brilliance but overall they were out muscled by a robust East Budleigh side. Chances emerged and vanished at both ends before Millwey took the lead just on half time when the home side's keeper could only palm Sam Dibling's powerful shot into the net. Rise started the second period looking the better team without creating any clear cut opportunities and paid for it ten minutes in when the home side equalised. The goal was controversial as prior to the forward striking the ball he had blatently pushed Dibling in the back. An identical push two minutes later on the same player resulted in a free kick! Millwey then had two efforts from Bennett and Farrant scrambled away by the home side before East Budleigh were awarded a penalty from which they went into the lead. Dibling then saw his free-kick pushed out by the keeper and scrambled away. Jack Farrant had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside by the home side's linesman. Millwey were reduced to ten men when Zak Meeker, (who up to that point was a strong contender for Millwey's MOM) was red carded after another of the many altercations that littered the game. East Budleigh added another goal in the final minutes when they capitalised on a Rise defensive lapse. Sam Dibling was at the heart of everything for Millwey, defence, link up play and attack but unfortunately they failed to capitalise on his untiring effort. Ottery St. Mary 2nd X1 are the visitors to Cloakham Lawns this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).Share:
