Axminster Town paid tribute to a life-long supporter before the start of their first South West Peninsular Premier East match yesterday.

Their opponents in the opening of the 2020-2021 season, Dartmouth, joined the Axminster players in a minute's silence in memory the much missed Jonny Broom.

Jonny was an ever-present face at Sector Lane and Tiger Way, rarely missing a match. He was a former committee man and served on the Axminster Hospital Cup for many years.

The Tigers put up a good showing against a more experienced Dartmouth side but were defeated 2-1, their goal coming from Reece Maccabe.

Axminster's next fixture is a home tie under lights against Elmore AFC (kick-off 7.30 pm).

Over local club results in Peninsular East One: Honiton 2, Holsworthy 1; Sidmouth Town 2, Plymouth Marjon 1.

Whilst the Axminster supporters are looking forward to a good season in Peninsular Premier East, the highest standard the club has played in, members of the committee are working hard organising social and fund-raising activities.
