Farway United 2, Millwey Rise 1sts 0

"No pasarán" was the motto of Millwey's players after they had quickly gone two goals behind at Farway.

From that moment on every Rise player played with a determination to match the skill of their talented opponents.

Despite losing striker Luke Thurlow after 20 minutes and a few minutes later the industrious Nathan Womersley, who, just before succumbing to a recuuring hamstring injury, hit the bar and from the rebound Farway's keeper brought off a fine save to keep out young Owen Enticott's volley.

Millwey defended magnificently for the rest of the half with Brett Garner in goal producing some outstanding saves supported by a resolute defence in which Alex Rockett and Imram Choudrey were prominent under the constant pressure of Farway's rampaging forwards.

Minutes before the break Shane Featherstone's header was pushed over the bar by the home team's keeper to maintain their two goal lead.

The second period was a repeat of the first with the Rise defence coming under constant pressure that resulted in 11 Farway corners and numerous strikes on goal.

Garner was a colossus between the sticks and the whole Millwey team played with a determination not to concede any further goals.

For Rise there were so many heroes so to name individuals is probably unfair, but Rockett and Choudrey were prominent in defence. Nathan Hoole and Zak Meaker ran their socks off in mid-field and Shane Featherstone, as the lone striker, provided a target for get-out balls. But keeper Brett Garner was definitely Millwey's man-of-the-match.

Next week Millwey visit Bravehearts at Cullompton but with a mounting injury list will once more have to rely on their contingent of youth players.
