In WHITFORD, before my time, we built a nicely elevated bungalow for Miss Wood and Miss Jennings, two school mistresses from Axminster Secondary School. We built an extension whilst I was back with the firm – but I always took my retired grandfather with me, when I visited as they had a "soft-spot" for "Uncle George" – the name by which they knew him.

Users of Devon's recycling centres are being reminded to treat staff with "courtesy and respect" following reports that key workers at more than one site were verbally abused and threatened over the weekend.

Fire crews were called out in the early hours of the morning to a domestic property fire at Colston, on the outskirts of Axminster.

Axminster and Chard fire crews was called to the scene at 3am following reports of a fire in the downstairs of a private property. On arrival, they found that one man had evacuated the property and there was no one else inside.

Council taxpayers in East Devon will be paying an extra £5 – less that 10p per week - for a Band D property to secure crucial front line services for residents and businesses.

The increase means the authority's portion of the annual Council Tax bill for a Band D property will be £151.78 a year or £2.92 a week for all the services it provides. The increase, which was approved by the council on 24 February 2021 is less than 10p extra per week.
