Friday: Pilot Whale Research
The Community Waffle House welcomes Pilot Whale Research on Friday – a four-piece electronic folk Bristol band whose sound is an ethereal blend of vocals, guitars and cello.
Saturday and Sunday: Axe Vale Show
One of Axminster's biggest annual events returns this weekend. The Axe Vale show is designed to showcase the very best Axminster and the surrounding area has to offer, with the emphasis very much on participation and community involvement.
This year to be held at Axminster Showground over the weekend of June 17 and 18, there will be a full programme of displays, entertainment and shopping.
New for 2023 is entertainment from Horsemen of the Knight, a team of professional stunt riders. If you think you recognise any of them then you probably do - regularly working in the film and TV industry on productions such as Game of Thrones, Beowulf, Merlin, King Arthur, War Horse, Peaky Blinders, Sherlock Holmes, Guy Richie's The Legend of the Sword, Outlaw King, Mary Queen of Scots and many more! This year at the Axe Vale Show, the audience will be treated to a magnificent display of jousting.
This year's event will also include the Jez Avery stunt show, terrier racing, displays by Axminster gymnastics, a programme of live music as well as dozens of stalls selling local crafts, produce, plants, food and drink.
There will also be a bouncy castle, Punch & Judy shows, face painting, roaming dinosaurs, archery and plenty more activities for children.
Saturday: A Night at the Opera
On Saturday evening, Axminster and District Choral Society will present a programme of opera favourites at the Minster Church. From comedy to tragedy and from Purcell to Verdi, the concert will have something for everyone – it promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
