Should dogs be allowed in Axminster's Jubilee Field? Residents are being invited to have their say

By Francesca Evans 25th Nov 2021

Axminster residents are being asked to comment on dog restrictions in Jubilee Field, between Dukes Way and the Foxhill area.

The town council will soon be taking full responsibility of Jubilee Field from East Devon District Council, and hopes to transform it into a well used community asset.

The council aims to provide a recreational facility that meets the majority of residents' and users' needs.

As part of this, discussions have been held on whether or not dogs should be allowed across the entire field, or whether a dog free area should be established.

Jubilee Field is currently completely dog accessible other than the fenced off children's play area.

The town council has now come up with three options for the field layout and is asking residents to choose their preferred option, as well as share any other comments or ideas they may have.

Option 1 shows the existing field with the addition of fencing around the mown area where football and other ball games may be played. Dogs will be free to roam in all other areas.

Option 2 extends the dog free area to include Option 1, plus an area encompassing other grassland that will be fenced off and be totally dog free. Dogs will be free to roam in all other areas.

Option 3 creates a free running dog area on the hill to the east of the field, with the rest of the field being dogs on leads. There is no dog free area in this option.

Residents can choose their preferred option and share additional comments via the online survey at https://forms.office.com/r/F1q4rz17zz

Paper copies are also available to pick up in the Guildhall.

This survey closes just before midnight on November 30 and only takes about 30 seconds to complete.
