Axminster war memorial on the Minster Green next year celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Recently, the memorial which contains the names of the 68 men of Axminster who lost their lives in two world wars, has been cleaned.

The work has been undertaken by two Axminster monumental masons Andy and Alfie Brooker with the work being paid for by Axminster Town Council.

The new-look memorial won many complimentary comments when the Axminster branch of the Royal British Legion held their Remembrance service on the Minster Green on Wednesday.

Next year the memorial shares its 100th anniversary with the centenary of the Royal British Legion.

The town council has also commissioned a refurbishment of the Jubilee Fountain in Trinity Square, Axminster's most famous landmark. The fountain was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887.
