No election to be held for Axminster Town Council as only 12 candidates come forward

There will be no election for Axminster Town Council on May 4 as not enough candidates to fill all 15 seats have put themselves forward.
A total of 12 candidates put themselves forward to fill a total of 15 seats, meaning there will be no town council election.
Nine candidates put themselves forward for the 10 available seats in the Town ward; two for the three available seats in the Weycroft ward; and just one for the two available seats in the Raymonds Hill ward.
Several existing members of the council have not sought re-election, including deputy mayor Cllr Andrea Sedgewick, as well as Cllrs Angela Huskisson, Steve Holt, Martin Mynard and Martin Spurway.
New candidates to put themselves forward include Terence Langdon and David Willey.
All those who have put themselves forward and will now be elected to the town council uncontested on May 4 are as follows:

- Kara Burrough
- Jill Farrow
- Terence Langdon
- Sara Leat
- Becky Lippett
- Liz Paice
- Bernie Steadman
- Jeremy Walden
WEYCROFT WARD
- Alfie Brooker
- David Willey
RAYMONDS HILL WARD
- Sarah Birnie
Candidates for other town and parish council elections in the area and for the East Devon District Council election, all to be held on May 4, are expected to be announced later this afternoon (Wednesday).
