Axminster Care Service (ACS) is pleased to announce the addition of Malcolm Laws as trustee to the charity.

Malcolm first joined ACS in October 2017 as a volunteer driver, taking clients to their medical appointments in and around the surrounding area.

He took over as driver co-ordinator in 2020 during the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. Happening at such a time, Malcolm felt it was important to maintain communication with the committee and started attending meetings to relay feedback from the volunteer drivers during this difficult period.

Malcolm's input and commitment has been invaluable to the committee, resulting in his appointment to trustee.

Malcolm, who has spent most of his life farming in partnership with his father, went on to manage a dairy herd for a further 20 years. This was followed by a shorter spell with Axminster Power Tools and from where he retired.

"I started volunteering to give myself a bit of purpose and to give back for the care I had received when I needed it," he said.

"I had a triple heart bypass in 2013 and the care I received was second to none, it was also quite a shock as I had no idea I was in any danger.

"ACS is a really good charity helping the people in the local community, we have some very committed drivers who go out of there way to help people and spending many hours waiting for patients to complete their appointments. We could do with more drivers!"
