The Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow, has been re-elected to serve as First Citizen for another year.
Cllr Farrow was one of 12 town councillors who were elected uncontested on May 4, having stood for a total of 15 seats.
She was re-elected as mayor at Axminster Town Council's annual meeting at the Guildhall on Monday night, having already served in the role since January 2021.
Proposing Cllr Farrow as mayor for another year, Cllr Jeremy Walden said that she had stepped up to the position in difficult circumstances following the sudden death of serving mayor Anni Young in December 2020 and had since steered the council through a challenging period.
The council unanimously voted to re-elect Cllr Farrow as mayor, with no other nominations.
Cllr Farrow said she would be "honoured" to serve the town for another year.
She commented: "This is not an easy role. Chairing meetings can ben lengthy and requires a lot of preparation, but serving the town is great."
Cllr Farrow commented specifically on the recent coronation events, saying it had been a privilege to be mayor for both the late Queen platinum jubilee last year and the coronation of a new monarch.
Cllr Sarah Birnie was then elected as the new Deputy Mayor of Axminster, taking over from Andrea Sedgewick who did not stand for re-election to the council earlier this month.
Axminster town councillors are now as follows:
- Andrew Bourne
- Kara Burrough
- Jill Farrow
- Terence Langdon
- Sara Leat
- Becky Lippett
- Liz Paice
- Bernie Steadman
- Jeremy Walden
- Alfie Brooker
- David Willey
- Sarah Birnie
