COUNCILLOR Anni Young has been elected for a second year as Mayor of Axminster.

Councillor Young, who moved to Axminster from London with husband Matt in 1998, has served on the town council since 2015.

Councillor Young, who represents the town ward on the council, was unanimously re-elected at a virtual meeting on May 11.

On the council website, Cllr Young says: "I feel very honoured to serve Axminster as a councillor and look forward to helping shape the future of this rapidly expanding town and trying to help residents with their concerns wherever I can."

Fellow town ward member Jill Farrow, a former civil servant before moving to Axminster in 2018, was elected as deputy mayor.

She succeeds Councillor Dave Moore who stood down due health reasons.

The next council meeting, to be held by video conferencing, takes place on Monday, June 8.
