Axminster Guildhall is currently undergoing a major programme of improvement works, which should help it attract bigger names and a wider programme of events.

The three-month programme of works is now well underway, with a new lighting rig having been installed with 14 new lights.

The stage has also been stripped with a structural engineer advising on a new grid and bars for lights on the stage.

Other equipment is also being refreshed and modernised and the Guildhall stage curtains will be replaced.

The balcony is also being refurbished, with the old seating having been stripped out and new seating to be installed.

The upgrade in the venue's entertainment facilities, which has been funded by Axminster Town Council, will help it to attract bigger acts in the future, with famous names such as comedians Dom Joly and Omid Djalili already scheduled to appear in October when the work is set to be completed.

Other exciting upcoming events include a Christmas Eve disco, for which tickets are available at just £5.

The last major event before the Guildhall closed for improvement works was a drag show which went down a storm with the audience, and this will be returning for Halloween 2023.

Manager Leigh Conley said: "The Guildhall is at the heart of the community and this programme of works should make it an amazing events venue."

Full details of all upcoming events and how to buy tickets are available on the website www.axminster-guildhall.co.uk
