Axminster-based charity Project Food is launching a new campaign to make it easier for people across East Devon who need free food support to get the help they need.

Funded by Devon Communities Together, this project will help people to understand the range of support that's available, and how they can access it.

Tiggy Parry, director at Project Food, said: "Many people across East Devon struggle to eat well, for various reasons. This has been the case for years, but things have got worse since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

"This new campaign will give people who need help a central point of contact so that they can quickly and easily access the type of food support they need.

"Whether they're living with mental health conditions, are isolated or living alone, have diet-related health issues, or have children and are struggling to make ends meet, there's help out there.

"We want people to understand what that help looks like, and how they can access it."

Project Food's website now includes a simple form that will be used to direct people to their nearest food banks, community fridges and larders, food delivery services, support groups, and cooking classes.

People can also contact Project Food by phone if they prefer and chat with one of their team members.

The charity will also be offering a wide range of its own free support services, such as fruit and vegetable boxes, home-cooked ready meals, group and one-to-one cooking classes, recipe boxes, and school holiday clubs.

If you're struggling to cook for yourself or your family, or to eat well for whatever reason, get in touch with Project Food via the form on their website, www.project-food.org.uk/who-we-help and select the 'support form'.

A member of the team will then get back to you with information on the best support available for you.

Alternatively, to speak to someone on the phone about what free help is available, please call 01297 631782.

Project Food is also looking to increase their team of volunteers to help deliver projects like this. If you have a bit of spare time to help your community and are passionate about food and cooking, get in touch with Kerry for a chat about how you can help – email [email protected]
