Local doctors, dentists and headteacher to skydive for Axminster cancer charity

By Francesca Evans 13th Jan 2022

A local doctor, anaesthetist, two dentists and a headteacher are all planning skydives to raise funds for Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support.

Axminster Medical Practice GP Dr Nick Hodges will be jumping out of a plane along with his wife, anaesthetist Alice Hodges, and brother Sandy Hodges and his parter Jess Waite, who are both local dentists.

They have personally covered all of the costs of the jump, so any money raised will go to the charity, which provides much-needed help for any people in the Axminster and Lyme Regis areas who have been affected by cancer.

The family team have already raised more than £1,300 of their £1,400 target and can be sponsored online at localgiving.org/fundraising/doctorsdentists

Headteacher of The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, Dan Watts, will also be completing a 15,000ft skydive at Dunkeswell Airfield in aid of the same charity.

He said: "I have recently been asked, by a retired pilot, why I would consider throwing myself out of a perfectly good airplane. A good question and a simple answer, why not?

"The jump has been planned to raise money for Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support who aim to provide assistance for anyone living with and beyond cancer in our community, including relatives and carers, regardless of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

"They provide information, educational literature and hold meetings around a variety of issues surrounding a cancer diagnosis or specific cancers.

"This is a great opportunity to support this fantastic local organisation. Please help me to help them by making a donation."

Dan has already raised more than £600 of his £1,000 target and can be sponsored online at localgiving.org/fundraising/DanJumps

Both skydives will take place on May 14 and you can also sign up to take the leap!
