Axminster & District Lions Club have donated £200 to help Axminster town crier buy a new uniform.

Town crier Nick Goodwin launched an appeal to residents and local organisations earlier this year to help him raise funds for new regalia.

Nick provided his own uniform when he was first appointed as Axminster's town crier in 2007 and the regalia has served him, and the town, well.

But, time takes its toll and Nick is now hoping for something smarter, more practical and in keeping with the town's rich and colourful heritage.

Lions Club members wanted to support the appeal, as they said Nick always supports their fundraising events, so they got together on Minster Green this week to present him with a cheque for £200.

He has also been granted £1,000 from Axminster Town Council towards the new uniform.

Nick hopes the new uniform can be made by the town crier of Bognor Regis, who also specialises in making regalia for other town criers.
