Safar Indian Restaurant in Axminster will be offering free children's meals to those who would usually receive a free school meal vouchers during the half term break.

Following the government's decision not to extend the free school meals voucher scheme during half term, restaurants up and down the country have got behind footballer Marcus Rashford's #endchildfoodpoverty campaign and have been stepping up to ensure no child goes hungry.

From October 27 to 30 Safar in Woodmead Road will be offering free kids meals to those would normally receive school meals voucher.

A message on the restaurant's Facebook page said: "We know that there are a lot of children locally that rely on their school dinners as a source of a daily meal. With the government unable to offer these during half term we will be doing our bit to help out a little!"

Those in need of a free children's meal should privately message the restaurant via its Facebook page by 6pm the night before, with a contact name and the time you would like to collect.

Pick up is available between 11.30am to 12.30pm. The restaurant is only able to offer a limited number of free meals each day so orders should be placed early to avoid disappointment.

The Facebook post added: "This is on a trust basis so please only get in touch if your children would normally be entitled to a free school meal."

Local charity Project Food said they are also happy to be supporting the #endchildfoodpoverty campaign this week, and is providing free meals and fresh fruit and vegetables to any child on free school meals.

To order, contact Project Food via private message on Facebook, email to [email protected] or call 01297 631782, or pop into the Food Hub on South Street.

If you have a local business that is offering a similar service this half term, please get in touch with the Nub News team by emailing [email protected] or call 07810 221 420 and we would be happy to promote this for free.
