Himalayan Balsam found across East Devon

By Francesca Evans

East Devon District Council and police have been made aware of a proliferation of Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant, in various rural parishes in the area.

This plant can cause ecological damage and can be considered a nuisance. As such, landowners whose land the plants are growing on have a responsibility to ensure that the plants are contained and disposed of properly and that they do not spread beyond their land.

Useful information which may assist landowners in identifying invasive plants and how to deal with them appropriately can be found on the gov.uk website and on the Devon County Councilwebsite.
