Greendale vaccination centre suspends walk-ins due to high demand

Exeter's vaccination centre, Greendale, stopped taking walk-ins yesterday (Monday) due to high demand.

Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust said that they had seen 'high demand' and were therefore not accepting anymore walk-ins.

It came after the government announced that anyone over the age of 18 can turn up at walk-in vaccination centres and a booster jab was available to anyone over the age of 30.

Increasing concern over the Omicron variant, combined with the government's change in policy, has led to a surge in people trying to get either a first or second vaccination or make a booking for a booster.

The NHS vaccination website has been experiencing technical difficulties due to demand since the announcement from Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday evening.

The roads around Greendale have also seen heavy congestion.
