Local businesses are lining up to get behind Axminster's next Fiver Fest, scheduled to take place in October.

Axminster is one of dozens of towns across the country joining the latest high profile national campaign, which will run from October 10 to 24.

The event is being run by the Axminster Totally Locally to encourage residents and visitors to make the most of their local, independent traders.

The organisers announced today they have already seen a "big response" to the upcoming festival, which will see traders offering special £5 deals to customers.

The idea behind the event is that if every adult spent £5 a week locally that they would otherwise have spent online or with national stores, it would pump £1.8million a year into the Axminster economy.

More than 30 businesses have already signed up to take part, including: Acorn, Archway Bookshop, Arts Cafe Bar, Axminster Inn, Axminster Jewellers, Axminster Prinitng, Axminster Tools & Machinery, Bennett & Rogers, California Fitness, Cloud Nine Florist, Coffee Factory, Collate Interiors, Complete Meats, Corner House Bakery, Country Market, Courthouse Makers, Crafty Hobbit Designs, Fabric Shop, Ganesha Wholefoods, George Hotel, Julian Hill Electrical, Le Pisani, Lou La Belle, Melanie Brown Hair & Beauty, Pawsitive Thinking, Project Food, Rabbit Hole Barbershop, Rainbow Pearls Design, Ric's Kitchen, Sweep Shop, Unique Framecraft, Wet Country Higgler, and West Street Picture Framing.

If your business isn't yet on this list, there are still a few more days to sign up - and it's free to join! Simply email [email protected]
