Funding has been secured for a pedestrian crossing outside St Mary's Roman Catholic School in Lyme Road, Axminster, one of the busiest access routes into the town centre.
For many years a school crossing control officer has operated outside the school where there is a 20mph speed restriction.
Axminster county councillor Ian Hall has welcomed the move. He told Nub News: "This is very good news. Funding has now been made available to construct a new Zebra crossing on Lyme Road at the location where the school crossing patrol currently operates from.
"Obviously I, like everyone, hope that the works can be completed by September and of course this will depend on contractors and the Covid-19 emergency. So fingers crossed and we are now further down the long journey.
"I would like to thank all for the support that has made this happen - especially representations from St Mary's Primary School.
"Finally, a huge thank you to those wonderful people who have manned the crossing for decades."
