Flood warnings in place for Axminster

Axminster Fire Station has warned of flooding in the area.

After heavy rain throughout the day, the fire service has issued a warning with regards to the River Axe (Upper) flooding in the area from Winsham to Axminster, including Chard Junction and Weycroft.

The warning read: "Heavy rain has been falling in the East Devon area and is forecast to continue into early evening tonight. This is causing the River Axe to rise.

""Properties and low lying areas around particular locations at risk include: Chard Junction - including the Three Counties Public House, Creamery and Broad Bridge areas Broom, Wadbrook, Axe Farm Weycroft - including Coaxden Cottages, Weycroft Mill and properties on the A358 around Weycroft Bridge B3165 at Mosterton and Clapton will start to flood first.

"Water levels are expected to be high for the rest of the weekend. Flood waters may be deep and fast flowing in these areas. Residents are strongly urged to take action now. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings.

"We will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the day and this message will be updated on Sunday morning or if the situation changes.

"Please only travel if it is absolutely essential in the weather we are currently having, and never enter fast flowing water or flood water where you are unsure of the level in your vehicle."
