The A358 was closed for several hours yesterday (Friday) after a lorry became entangled with high voltage electrical cables.

The incident took place at Abbey Gate on the outskirts of Axminster, at about 4pm yesterday afternoon.

Crews from Axminster, Chard, Charmouth and Bridport attended, along with representatives of Western Power Distribution and police who assisted with the road closure.

The driver of the lorry remained inside the vehicle for his safety until the power was isolated.

The fire service have since asked residents to consider access for emergency services when they are parking, as the Chard crew were significantly delayed in arriving on scene as a vehicle was obstructing South Street.

Axminster fire crew said: "Every second counts when responding to an emergency. Please consider not only our fire appliances but all emergency vehicles when parking your vehicles."
