Ex-pats feeling homesick for Axminster after reading Nub News!

The popularity of Axminster Nub News, with readers in many places worldwide, is helping to reunite old friends, some of whom are feeling "homesick".

One of the town's most respected citizens, Andrew Moulding, is writing a regular article in Nub News called 'Moulding's Memories' in which he recalls his days growing up in Axminster in the 1950s.

It has proved to be compulsive reading, especially for those who were born and brought up in the town.

In his latest articles, Andrew is taking a stroll through his hometown in the 1950s, listing all the shops and businesses he can remember and the people who ran them.

In future articles, Andrew - a former mayor and long-serving councillor at town, district and county level - is planning to write about some of the town's most popular events, starting with Axminster Carnival.

'Moulding's Memories' columns are proving to be extremely popular with an increasing number of Axminster Nub News' readers, many of whom live abroad and have contacted us to say how much they are enjoying Andrew's articles.

Andrew has called on another of the town's most respected community stalwarts, former mayor and councillor John Jeffery, who last year was awarded the BEM for services to Axminster, to help him with his research.

Among those to contact us about how much they are enjoying Andrew's articles is Peter Manley, who now lives in Spain.

He wrote to Andrew saying: "Came upon your article 'Moulding's Memories' today and it brought back so many memories of our time in Axminster whilst we were at school and our many evenings spent in the churchyard and the café on the corner next Newbery's electrical shop.

"For the past 11 years I have been living in Spain but we are just about to repatriate back to the UK on September 21.

"Would love to keep in touch and to catch up with all your news."

Andrew was delighted to receive the email from Peter and says he is looking forward to meeting him again to chew over old times.

Axminster Nub News also received an email from Philip Newbery, another of Andrew's old friends, writing from Williamsburg, Virginia, where he has been living for the last 25 years.

Philip wrote: "My wife follows the various Axminster pages through Facebook and she has been showing me Andrew's articles.

"I just wanted to let you (Andrew) know how much I really enjoyed reading them. They have been making me homesick too! I would love to hear back from you."

The message has been passed on to Andrew and he will be getting back to him.

Are there any more ex-pats out there who are reading Andrew's memories? If so, please get in touch by emailing [email protected]
