Axminster county councillor Ian Hall has appealed to local dog owners to keep their pets on a lead when walking through farm land.

Cllr Hall explained that Public Rights Of Way (PROW) were footpaths that follow agreed routes in collaboration with County Council's across farmers' land.

In a message on social media to his constituents, Cll Hall said: "It is with great regret, that I have been asked again to inform you all on behalf of concerned farmers that some concerning behaviour has unfortunately continued.

"We appreciate that the majority of Axminster residents enjoy the public footpaths along the River at White Bridges. However, the land owner has been in direct contact with me, saying that whilst he acknowledges most people are respectful of the cattle and keep their dogs on leads, this a small minority. They are trespassing on private land and not sticking to the permitted paths.

"Please be mindful of your actions and please keep your dogs on leads"

Cllr Hall thanked the majority of people who were "very respectful", pointing out it was just a very small minority who were falling short of what is required, adding: "Awareness will hopefully help to ensure that everyone can enjoy our environment and the farming community can contribute to contribute to all our wellbeing."
