Residents of the Raymond's Hill are being consulted on a proposed children's play park for the area.

Axminster Town Council is proposing creating a play park for Raymond's Hill residents, with a potential site agreed in principle with the landowner at Diamond's Tea Room in Cooks Lane.

The project has been initially costed at £15,000 with the money coming from Section 106 funding, paid to East Devon District Council from local housing developments for community projects.

Councillor Matt Adamson-Drage, who represented the Raymond's Hill ward on Axminster Town Council, has now written to residents asking for their views on the proposal.

He said: "This is extremely exciting news as the first community project funded by the council in Raymond's Hill for some time. Indeed, if Raymond's Hill was built today a play park would have been integral to the development - so I hope you'll agree it's long overdue.

"There are plenty of young families in the area now who would benefit, as will grandparents who have grandchildren come to visit."

Councillor Adamson-Drage said the proposal was for an "exciting, modern area for young children to play" and would include a small climbing wall, balance trail and swings.

His letter to residents included the image above, outlining the proposed play park and its location.

If the consultation with residents is successful, a planning application will be submitted to East Devon District Council and a contract drawn up with the landowner.

The play equipment contractors will be asked to quote for the work with more detailed designs before installation will commence.

It is hoped the project could be completed by summer 2021.

Residents are now being asked to share their views on the proposed play park by October 31. To share your views, email Matt Adamson-Drage on [email protected] or call the council office on 01297 32088.
