Conservative candidate Ian Hall has been returned as the Devon county councillor for Axminster with a majority vote of 1,672.

He beat Independent East Devon Alliance candidate and East Devon district councillor Paul Hayward, who came second place with 1,439.

Labour candidate and Axminster town councillor Oliver Tucker - who was standing at just 18 years old - received 498 votes, while Liberal Democrat candidate Anthony 'Jules' Hoyles polled 209.

The turnout was 38.7 per cent and 14 ballot papers were rejected for a mark by which voter could be identified or being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty.
