Axminster fire crew were kept busy yesterday (Tuesday) with calls to a small vehicle fire and to rescue a kitten.

The crew were called out at 9.49am to reports of a vehicle on fire on the A35 at the Trinity Hill junction.

Both Axminster and Charmouth crews attended and found a vehicle at the side of the road that had a small fire in the engine bay, involving oil, that was already out on arrival.

Crews set to work with traffic management to keep the vehicle safe. They also used a hose reel jet to cool the engine and to ensure the small fire was completely extinguished.

The Axminster crew returned to the station at 11.15am.

They were then called out again at 6.45pm following a call from a pet owner reporting that their kitten had become trapped between the bars of its cage.

The crew managed to successfully release the kitten using small tools and returned to the station by 7pm.

The crew's co-responders were also called out yesterday at 7am to an incident in Chard, following an incident on Monday night in Bridport.

The co-responders have been called out to medical incidents a total of 21 times this month.
