Axminster's popular Community Waffle House is back in business.
Open last April as a non-profit making community interest company, the Waffle House has been a huge success with every penny made going to help the needy of Axminster, especially the isolated and lonely.
The Waffle House was forced to close down during coronavirus lockdown but opened its door yesterday afternoon for a takeaway service.
The hand-baked waffles were in great demand as soon as they started serving with customers able to take their Belgian desserts onto the nearby Minster Green where six picnic tables, made by Ian Styles from Axminster Property, were laid out.
The Waffle House is being run by three directors - Matt Smith, Tim and Sophie Mclachlan - and a team of around 20 helpers.
When the project was announced last year, Matt. Smith was quoted as saying: "We are just a group of youngish people that live in Axminster and are really keen to see our community thrive - so we would love to hear from people if they have a passion for the community of Axminster and have any ideas or comments for how this space could be used."
Among the first customers were Axminster's sweet-toothed Nub News team Philip and Francesca Evans who declared the waffles as "delicious as ever".
The Waffle House serves 12 different varieties, ranging in price from £3 to £5.60, as well as a full range of teas and coffees and a full range of soft drinks, including smoothies and shakes.
The Waffle House is opening from 2 pm to 7 pm (Wednesday to Friday) and orders have to be booked by telephone (01297 35139).
