Mervyn Symes, the newly-appointed chairman of the Axminster branch of the Royal British Legion, has confirmed that there will be a Remembrance service in the town this year although there will be no parade.

The gathering will take place on Sunday, November 8th at 10.45am, at the War Memorial on the Minster Green.

The Royal British Legion chaplain, the Reverend Geoffrey Walsh, will be officiating at the service and Mr Symes will read out the names of the fallen from both world wars at 10.55am.

A number of civic dignitaries are expected to attend, including the Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Anni Young, the MP for Tiverton & Honiton, Neil Parish, and other representatives of business and community groups.

The service will follow COVID-19 guidelines and people will be required to wear masks and maintain two metres social distancing. There will be hand sanitiser stations in situ and stewards will be on hand to ensure that social distancing is adhered to.
