Axminster Town Council has updated residents on its future plans for Jubilee Field, as the piece of land was formally passed to town council ownership last week.

East Devon District Council officially handed over ownership of the recreation area, between Boxfield Road, Dukes Way and Swain Close, to the town council on Saturday.

The town council has some "exciting and ambitious plans" for this new public amenity, and will officially open the field during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, but residents can now use it whenever they like.

Some new planting has already got underway in the field.

Among the extra amenities planned for the site are:

  • New climbing wall
  • Dog-free family area
  • New park and picnic benches
  • Additional hard pathway to create a 360deg. walking route for visitors
  • Lots of new trees and bio-diversity habitats
  • Cycle racks to encourage fewer car journeys to the site

The council hope that all residents will make the most of this open space, but remind field users use the bins provided for litter and dog's mess.

A spokesperson added: "Have fun and please do let us know if there is something else you think would work well here and encourage others to visit."
