Good news for theatre-goers in Axminster. The town's Musical Theatre group will be returning to the Guildhall stage in 2021 to perform the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber smash hit "Evita".

The musical concentrates on the life of Argentinian political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentinian President Juan Perón. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, work of charity and factual death.

The show contains some of musical theatre's best loved songs, including 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' and 'Oh What A Circus'. In the film version, the role of Evita was played by Madonna with Jonathan Pryce as Perón.

The show was staged in 2015 by the Lyme Regis Musical Theatre with Kelly Apps receiving rave reviews for her performance of Evita. She played opposite Ian Styles who gave a stellar performance as Perón.

Both are also stalwart members of Axminster Musical Theatre (ATM) and Kelly has been appointed as director with Joe Binmore as musical director and Jack Price as stage manager, all three of them having worked together on staging "Anything Goes" by Lyme Regis Musical Theatre in 2019.

A press release from ATM stated: "The team are all very excited to be working together again under Kelly's leadership. Kelly has previously played the role of Evita which gives her the knowledge and experience of this incredible show."

"Evita" will be performed at Axminster Guildhall from Tuesday, September 16th until Saturday, November 20th 2021. Information regarding an introduction evening and auditions will be made available in the Spring on the AMT website www.axmt.co.uk
