Following the Prime Minister's announcement deferring the further lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, the chairman the Axminster branch of the Royal British Legion, Mr Mervyn Symes has reviewed plans for the Centenary celebrations on July 17.

The procession of branch members through the town, led by a band of pipes and drums, will go ahead at the stated time of 10.30am.

The procession will reach the War Memorial at approximately 11am where a service of rededication will take place to honour the recently added names.

This will be followed by a reception for branch members and invited guests, heralded by Honiton Town Band from 12 noon.

All dignitaries who had confirmed their attendance are still expected to be present, including the President of RBL Devon County Sarah Lopes; chairman of RBL Devon County Kevin Jeffries; Rear Admiral Tim Lowe; Cmdr Jamie Millar.

It is expected that MP Neil Parish will be in attendance, and also the Deputy Lord Lieutenant.

The only item on the day's original agenda which has been cancelled is the community picnic on the Minster which was due to run from 12 noon. This has now been postponed until August and will run as a separate event organised by Axminster Carnival Committee.
