Axminster paid homage to the town's war dead at a well attended Remembrance service on the Minster Green.

Marching organisations gathered at the South Street car park before processing via South Street to the War Memorial on the Minster Green, under the guidance of the parade marshal, Lee Davis, who served in the Royal Corp of Signals for 24 years. Road closures were supervised by Axminster Carnival Committee.

A service on the Minster Green was conducted by the Rector, the Reverend Clive Sedgewick. Former mayor of Axminster Mervyn Symes read the roll of honour in memory of those men from Axminster who gave their lives in Two World Wars, and Leslie Frankau, chairperson of the Axminster branch Women's Section of the Royal British Legion, delivered the Exhortation.

The principal guest was the Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, Mr Brian Wills-Pope MBE, who laid a wreath on behalf of King Charles III.

The Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow, lead the civic party, which included town councillors. Cllr Phil Twiss laid a wreath on behalf of Cllr Ian Hall, chairman of Devon County Council, and Cllr Sara Jackson represented East Devon District Council.

Main organiser Mervyn Symes commented afterwards: "It was one of the biggest crowds we have seen in recent years at the Remembrance service. We thank all those who gave their support."
