Axminster got into the festive spirit on Sunday afternoon with a drive-in carol service held at the Tesco car park.

Organised by the Axe Valley Mission Community, the service was attended by about 60 cars despite heavy rain throughout the afternoon.

It followed their successful drive-in harvest festival held earlier this year on the outskirts of Axminster.

Families, households and support bubbles were able to join in with a programme of traditional Christmas carols from inside their cars or standing just outside them while keeping to social distancing guidelines.

The service was conducted by the curate of the Axe Valley Mission Community, the Reverend Tracey Voysey, and included a competition for the best decorated car.

Team Vicar, Rev Nicky Davies said: "It was great fun. Having a drive-in service meant we could be together in a safe physically-distanced way. I think people of all ages enjoyed it judging by the sound of car horns! We pray that it has uplifted people's spirits and touched them with God's love."
