Axminster firefighters had a busy day yesterday (Saturday) assisting Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service with an agricultural fire at Fishpond Bottom, near Lyme Regis.

Five pump crews and two water carrier crews were called to the fire involving straw inside a single storey barn in Combe Drain, Fishpond Bottom.

Firefighters from Charmouth, Axminster, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Beaminster, Chard and Yeovil attended and used two hose reel jets and two main lines to extinguish the fire.

Later that night, the Axminster crew were called to a car fire in Hawkchurch.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and put the fire out using two hose reel jets. A small amount of hedgerow was also extinguished.

The fire severely damaged the vehicle and was deemed as accidental ignition. Crews left the scene in the care of recovery.
