Emergency services have warned drivers to take care on icy roads after a number of single vehicle accidents in the area in recent weeks.

In the latest incident, Axminster, Colyton and Charmouth fire crews, police and the ambulance service were called to a car on its side with one person trapped inside on Wednesday.

The Charmouth crew attended the incident as they have a specialist vehicle stabilisation system, known as Stabfast, which crews used to immediately stabilised the vehicle and gain access through the tailgate, so one crew member could get inside to act as a casualty carer.

As more crew arrived on scene to assist, there were able to create more space in the vehicle to allow a better assessment of the casualty and their entrapment.

Crews managed to move the drivers seat back with the assistance of the casualty in the vehicle and this allowed enough space for the casualty to be safely removed from the vehicle.

Once the casualty had been removed from the vehicle they were taken to the awaiting ambulance for triage. The female driver was said to be shaken up but with no significant injuries.

Crews worked to make the vehicle safe and the scene was left in the hands of police to await recovery of the vehicle.
