Axminster Drama Club to host virtual information evening for 'Nativity! The Musical'
By Guest 8th Apr 2021
Axminster Drama Club (ADC) will be hosting a virtual information evening in May as it begins preparations for its production on 'Nativity! The Musical'.
The club recently announced its intention to stage the popular production, which is based on the film of the same name.
The story revolves around a production of the annual nativity production at St Bernadette's School, in Coventry, where Mr Maddens has been asked to direct the show.
But in an effort to get one over on a teacher at the rival school Oakmoor, he says Hollywood is coming to film it.
His teaching assistant, Mr Poppy, overhears the conversation and believes it to be the truth and before Mr Maddens can correct the situation, events start to run out of control.
In preparing for the show, which is due to be staged on Friday, December 17 and Saturday, December 18, ADC will be hosting two virtual sessions on Tuesday, May 4, to provide information about the production to anyone who wants to get involved.
The first session will be aimed at children aged eight or above, including secondary school-age children, who will be a vital part of the show.
Show director Sara Leat said: "We are looking for children to play the students of St Bernadette's and Oakmoor. These are singing and dancing roles primarily, but some children will be required to play speaking parts too.
"Obviously, children will only be asked to do a speaking role if they wish to do so."
There will be several significant parts for adults in the show, as well as a number of minor roles for those who want more limited involvement.
The second session on the same evening will be aimed at adults and auditions are likely to take place in July, subject to any restrictions that are in place at the time.
Anyone who would like to be kept up to date about getting involved with this production, or register their children's interest to be in it, can email [email protected] or follow the club's Facebook page.
The last time the club put on a production was in February, 2020, when it staged four episodes of Blackadder.
Members are keen to get back on the stage and are looking forward to welcoming an audience into the Guildhall, where the production will take place.
