Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support is hosting its first 'Let's Talk About Cancer' event on Saturday, March 4.

The event, to be held at Uplyme Village Hall, will focus on bowel cancer and its signs and symptoms, and will also discuss how to nurture a healthy gut.

Speakers at the event will be local GP Dr Yvonne Hodges and nutritionist Elizabeth Bond.

While there is no charge for attending the event, those wishing to come along will need to register through the charity's website at axminsterandlymecancersupport.co.uk

The first 60 to register will receive an additional free wellness pack.

Those under 18 who wish to attend will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Mary Kahn, founder of the charity, said: "There has been an increase in diagnosis of bowel cancer and it is important to be able to talk about the symptoms and treatments available.

"We are please to have received funding from Communities Against Cancer to help support our first 'Let's Talk About Cancer' event.

"This is part of our cancer awareness programme and we will be holding a skin awareness event in the summer."

The charity also draws inspiration from Dame Deborah Jones, who died last year of bowel cancer, who raised awareness and campaigned for more to talk openly about cancer and de-stigmatise the whole subject of our bowels.
