A new cafe in Axminster has closed its doors permanently, just five months after opening, due to lack of trade.

Gabe's Cafe on the Millwey Rise Industrial Estate, opened in March but announced via social media this week it would be closing down.

Owner Ellis Holt said there was no one to blame for the closure, and commented: "It's with a very sad heart that we have to admit defeat. Gabe's Café has had to shut its doors for the last time.

"We've only been open a very short time but we've met some amazing people and had some laughs with so many. We've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it but there just wasn't enough trade coming into the café for it to be sustainable.

"We've hit some struggles along the way and and have always kept our heads up and tried our best to overcome them with a smile but we have found a mountain that's just a little too big to climb this time!"

Mr Holt thanked all of his customers, landlords Axminster Property, Axminster Chamber of Commerce for their held and guidance, as well as suppliers and delivery drivers.
