Axminster Arts has been dissolved – exactly 21 years after it was founded in November 1999.

Axminster Arts promoted arts and music in the town giving many artists the opportunity to appear in public.

Their regular "Music in the Garden" sessions at the Arts Café in the Old Courthouse were hugely popular.

All assets have been transferred to the Guildhall Management Committee, including the bandstand and garden effects, as per Axminster Arts constitution.

Axminster Arts was not part of the Arts Café Bar which was recently severely damaged by fire.

The closing down of the organisation was announced on the Axminster Notice Board this afternoon by Pat Ayers who thanked all those who supported "Music In The Garden" events and the "great musicians" who played for them.

She concluded by saying: "May music play on in our souls."
