Axminster and surrounding villages are looking forward to community celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

An extended Bank Holiday weekend will mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 with special events to take place up and down the country.

In Axminster, the Friends of the Minster Church invite all to a civic service from 2.30pm, which is expected to be attended by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Brian Wills-Pope, and the Mayor of Axminster, Cllr Jill Farrow.

This will be following by a community cream tea in the Guildhall, from 3.15pm, again to which all are invited to attend.

Axminster Conservative Club will be hosting a jubilee part from 8pm on Friday, June 3. The dress code will be red, white and blue and there will be live music from Neil Morris, a buffet 'fit for a Queen', a royal quiz and raffle in aid of Axminster charity Arc. All are welcome to attend.

Axminster Town Council has just taken over ownership of the Jubilee Field recreation area and this will be officially opened during the weekend of celebrations.

Neighbouring Kilmington has also announced a full weekend of celebrations.
